Kind Lady Found An Injured Owl At The Side Of The Road And Tried To Help Him But Learned A Fascinating Lesson

It was an eerie kind of month in October 2016; I cycled around savoring the cold autumn air, appreciating the view of colorful fall foliage when a hardly indistinct shape flew across my path and, just like that, landed in a ditch. The ditch, all covered in yellow leaves, left me without a clear impression of what had just come to rest there. With a more detailed look, I realized it was an owl clipped by a car. Right then, my otherwise carefree mind gave way to an instinct. So, I did a bit of a quick search on my phone and found an owl rescue center near me. Calling them up, I learned that I should wrap the owl in my shirt so it would not go into shock. They also assured me that a car was getting dispatched to our location. I held it for 20 minutes, comforting it in my hands and speaking to it, assuming this would be of some comfort.

The next day, the Owl Rescue Center called me back. They told me that it had a broken wing and that it was due for an operation. But sadly, it didn’t last the night. The news was heartbreaking, but I was comforted that I did what I always do: help a poor animal in distress. That was hard to believe, but I could not let any regrets be had. This experience taught me that even the smallest things might mean something to people or the rest of the world. It’s like how those butterfly moments change our lives in a way that resonates with how the double cicada brood of 2024 will affect our environment or how the UEFA European Football Championship and The NBA Finals will resonate.

Father’s Day makes this story much more powerful because we think about the lessons our fathers taught us. It reminds us that there are people like Jeanne Córdova, who dedicated their lives to the cause. The owl didn’t survive, but the encounter reminded me of my commitment since I was a child to help animals. These are the moments that fill our lives with meaning—the same as being with family or creating lifetime memories with our hobbies and simple acts of kindness.
